Why can't they just come up with NEW ideas for movies? The girlfriend and myself went to see a movie today and one of the previews was for a remake of get this "The Karate Kid" . I didn't even know it at first and was cracking a joke about oh look they remade the Karate Kid with Jackie Chan and then the title screen came up. The kid isn't even doing karate he is learning Kung Fu.

Though watch for the poster at the end of the clip that Chan kills the fly on.

The remakes will stop when the Marching Morons stop spending money to go see them.

Precisely. We refuse to see any remakes in the theater. I'm not paying for nostalgia and laziness.

not a remake of any particular movie, but the recent rehash of Sherlock Holmes was pretty good. I dont mind a retelling of a story, but the actual duplication of a movie is rather boring.

Sherlock Holmes was well done, as was Star Trek, I actually liked the first Transformers too. (the second was an abomination.)

Yeah I agree on Holmes and Star Trek as it wasn't just a remake.

GI_Drewsifer you sure? It is still working for me.

As for the poster I'm thinking its a Toyota

I've heard rumors of a remake of 'The Last Dragon,' which is easily my favorite Berry-Gordy-produced '80s blacksploitation Kung-Fu-Funk movie of all time. Even with Samuel 'THAT'S HOW I TALK!' Jackson as Sho-Nuff, there's no way it will begin to approach the sheer awesomeness of the original.

OMG my kids saw that in karate class one Friday evening. It's possibly in the Top 10 Worst Movies Evar Made. Definitely worth watching. Once.

    They are remaking They Live!

Could be good if done right, the original was a bit low budget... if not, Rowdy Ronnie Piper will not be amused:

I am here to kick ass and chew bubble gum, and I am all out of bubble gum...

As someone mentioned here before, this is simply an abomination:

Knowing some of the folks that live in Spokane, they won't have any trouble finding weapons or ammunition or mullets for the movie. They just have to be careful to not cause a "War of the Worlds" style panic in the process.

On the plus side, they could also film a "Deliverance" remake there without too much hassle :)

Some remakes aren't bad. As an example, the remake of Sabrina with Harrison Ford was actually better than the original. The remake of The Thomas Crown Affair was also quite good.

That said, it would be difficult to improve on Pat Morita.

    Agreed.

Oceans 11, Titanic, arguably Casino Royale... Thats all I can think of right now.

I read this and thought it simply could not be true, how could they?!

Efforts to remake RHPS were canceled in September of last year, thank goodness!

Except the first was more a parody than the "truer to Fleming form" second version.

I would like to see what they SFX they would use for a remake, or better yet a "20 years later" sequel(3quel?) of Gremlins.

Looks like a "gremlins 3" is a posibility, but 'they' are pushing the use of muppets instead of CGI... If it does happen, at least it wont be a remake.
