I've just noticed in the past few days that 22 rimfire ammo is scarce as hens teeth. And when you can find it, its over double what it cost and few months back. Any conspiracy theorists here?

Panic purchases driven by a democrat in the white house a democratic congress- and .22lr is still dirt cheap, comparatively. If you just want to put holes in paper, why use the expensive .308 or 7.62 or .223 when you can get by with the ol Ruger 10-22 until the panic dies down a little.

Where you been? There hasn't been any 22LR on the shelves for 4-5 months. Your best bet is to go to Wally World every day at about 0900 and check the shelves. Any that you see at 0900 will be gone by 1700.

Yup, panic purchases caused by rumors. I remember back in the 1970s there was a rumor about a possible toilet paper shortage, and everyone ran out and bought as much as they could until there actually was a shortage.

I got 1500 rounds of .22lr.
So I'm g2g for as little as I use it.
But I don't know if you noticed, but ALL FREAKIN' AMMO has gone missing. .308/.223/9mm/.45 IT IS ALL GONE. :( I have a hungry FAL and nothing to feed it! :(

It's funny when you read in news reports of police raids and arrests that authorities confiscated X handguns and Y rifles, and a thousand rounds of ammunition. The photo/video shows assorted guns and a couple of bricks of .22 ammunition, 500 per ...
You don't want to know how many rounds of .22 LR I went through on the taxpayer dime on high school and college ROTC rifle teams.

Good thing I bought two cases of 7.62 x 54r last year for 150 bucks for a total of 1760 rounds. I have a bunch of .22 as well which must be why I have heard people talk of this shortage but not personally experinced it.

Problem with X54r surplus is it's all corrosive. :( I found some SA battlepacks of .308 for 75 bucks per, I guess I should have bought one or two but I'm such a cheapass...

Tim, What you need to do is include one box of 22LR with each GRM T-shirt and coffee mug. You'll be cleaned out in a week. At Wally World the other day, a customer was there also looking at the ammo, just to see what was on the shelf (like I was) and I mentioned that in Texas a few weeks before I had seen a case of Federal 22LR at a Super Center for $13/box of 550. He said people were buying all of that they could and selling it at the gun show the next day for the going rate of $26/box.
Last time at a Wally World, they has zero 22LR, some 22 CB shorts, some odd ball stuff like 17 rimfire, shot gun ammo, a few boxes of centerfire stuff like 270, a few 30-06, and almost no center fire pistol ammo. No 9mm. I think they had some 44 mag at like $30 a box or something. Don't think that this event is lost on our politicians. This is why there's been no real push for more disarming of law abiding citizens. They are starting to get a bit worried about us. Already, large parts of Idaho and Montana are virtually outside the law. Wyoming and Tennesee have passed "Up Your's, Feds" legislation. So, yeah, if you see a box of 22, pick it up. -

Crap I have like 2000 rounds of .308 and no rifle for it anymore. Bout the same in .223 and .22 LR, a ton in 9mm. Most of this came from my dad after he lost his marbles and I ended up with all his stuff.
What I need though is some 12 ga shells and .45 ACP.
In my family we have always had loads of .22 on hand. I remember hearing stories of my grand dad poaching deer when he was a kid with a .22 because it was cheap. Grandpa was a good shot.

Sorry, I am building an army of children (disenfranchised boy scouts, farmers, etc) armed with $89 Marlin .22 lever action rifles. We do a lot of training this time of year. They will be the first line in the war on zombies, intelligent machines or communists after the US goes bankrupt.

With 308 going for upwards of a buck a round, 223 at around 50-75 cents, you could have a couple of challenge cars there, rebelgtp. Pick up a SGN and look for the closest next gun show. Or pick up a rifle in each and wait for the zombies.

Well I haven't had an abundance of places to shoot, so I haven't need any extra. I had a good supply. I just bought a new (to me) rifle and wanted to bust some rims. The stuff I was reading was from February to April, so I new it had been a while. I noticed Wally World was out of almost all their ammo to other day and got to checking. Surprise Surprise Surprise.

They just had a story about this on 60 min. Another "Obama is the source of all things bad panic" for the country.
In the real world however, it looks like there are a LOT of politicians (yes even the freedom hating Dems) who won't go near gun control for political reasons. Hell, even Diana Fienstein (not exactly a gun lover) said she has no interest in picking this fight at this time.
Your best bet (as always) is figuring out how to make money off these idiots.
I wonder how fire fighters feel about people having large cashes of ammo in their houses? That could make things interesting for them!

I'm SO GLAD that 60 minutes has looked into the ammo shortage and determined THERE'S NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT.
Actually, ammo is fairly safe in a house fire. The NRA has done tests. I'm sure others have too. Bullets don't explode, sending projectiles out to injure fire fighters. They just go "poof" and mostly send the brass part a little ways.
