Try some of the online vendors, guys. 9mm, .223 and .308 are easy enough to find at aimsurplus.com or palmettostatearmory.com. I've ordered from both and would do so again. I've seen tons of 9mm at Wal Mart and same for .22lr. 45 ACP on the other hand, I've seen nowhere unless it's that godawful Russian stuff.

The ammo frenzy is calming down...slowly. Lots of guys who bought hi-cap magazines, AR15s and tons of ammo just after the election are now realizing they're not going to make a fortune on it and it's time to pay off the credit cards.

Sportsman's Guide has 3 18 rnd Glock 17 mags for forty bucks, new, Korean made by a Glock supplier. They have some other stuff too. I saw some 223 pretty cheap there, but that was last week. Jgsales.com also has some 223, 1000 rnds for $380, which is dirt cheap today for US mil spec stuff.

As mentioned, "large" (HA! 1k in each round is what I'd call bare minimum) stores of ammo poses less of a risk to fire fighters than a propane grill. There is some issue with storing weapons with a round in the chamber and fires. It then becomes and issue, unless it's facing down.

Well I already have a .223 rifle so no worries on that front. I was looking at one of the Weatherby Vanguards in .308 at my local Bi Mart for $350.

Easy to find, yes. Reasonable? No.

I'm not paying more than $.5/round for milspec .308. that I'm just going to hammer through. For match grade? Sure I guess, although match grade ammo through a FAL is a big waste of money. I guess I ought to just buy 500 rounds of Brown Bear from J&G and be done with it...

zomg obama is going to take my guns and my money to pay for health care for people with cancer.. Maybe it's because he wasn't born in hawaii and is really an muslim from arabistan...

what's next.. my chaw or my right to have multiple underage brides.. (it's a joke people.. calm down, I have nothing against responsible citizens owning guns and may get my CRFFL soon... But it's just so easy to poke fun at some folks these days.. They're alittle excitable..)

I'll tell you one thing, if I were back working for remington and in the marketing department.. I'd be stoking all of these rumors I could.

I just bought 2 boxes of PMC for 13.95/box.

Granted it was probably the last two boxes in all of Virginia, but...

I have about 2000 rounds of .45 ACP, 1000 rounds of .40 S/W, 4000+ of .22 LR. I did have more .22 before I put some thru the squirels in my yard this weekend. I load my own centre fire.

Just to clarify, I wasn't specific enough, the 60 min piece was on gun control not ammo availability. They did mention the large increase in the price of guns though.

20/20 also did an interesting piece on untrained civilians using guns in a public crisis situation, the results were less than impressive.

If by "results" you mean "totally biased can't even call it reporting" then yeah, you're spot on.

I can't even begin to start in on all the things that were wrong with that "scenario".

They used super baggy shirts that you couldn't get your gun out from under, the shooter KNEW which students had guns and aimed for them right after "killing" the teacher, and the students STILL came out on top once. Nevermind that studies have shown that these types of maniacs (referring of course to mass shooters a'la columbine/vt) stop IMMEDIATELY when presented with resistance.

That whole 20/20 special was a farce. It was "interesting" only in its blatant anti-freedom bias.

Exactly, that 20/20 piece was a joke. They didn't even make any of the "civilian" shooters go through the training required to get a handgun carry permit in the first place. Most who participated had never shot a pistol in their lives. They also used trained experts as the guys shooting up the class and had the armed student sit in the same spot every time so that the shooter knew exactly who was armed. They literally could not have stacked the deck any more than they did. Besides, the test was totally unscientific in that there was no control group. How about having a test in which a shooter confronts a completely defenseless class, counting the number "killed" and then compare that number to how many are "killed" when one student has a weapon. Does anyone actually think more people will die in the second scenario than in the first?

Problem with X54r surplus is it's all corrosive. :( I found some SA battlepacks of .308 for 75 bucks per, I guess I should have bought one or two but I'm such a cheapass...

That is the problem with 54r surplus but I love cleaning my rifle so much it doesn't bother me.

I went to Georgia to visit a friend in the Air Force in early June. He told us to find and buy some 9mm ammo on the way down because he couldn't find ANY! OK, this is a guy in the SOUTH, in the MILITARY who can't find 9mm bullets (the second most common bullet in my opinion next to .22)! What is happening?

Because of this thread, while I was picking up some metal t-posts last night at the farm and home type store, I picked up 4 boxes of 22lr for, I think, $2.19 a box (50 rounds per box).

The 22lrs were on the checkout aisle. Next to the bubble gum and pez. Seriously.

I keep meaning to buy a bunch of .38 from AIM ($14/box), gotta wait till I get back from my vacation first. Actually, I really want to get one of the Nagant revolvers they have and a ton of ammo for it, but been too lazy to fill out my C+R FFL so I can order it.

About the only ammo I can consistently find locally at non-gun stores is shotgun shells and weird calibers like .25 auto, though .22lr is definitely the next most available. At a gun store I can get just about anything at about the same prices they were before the panics.

THIS IS TRUTH! My poor poor FAL has been sitting there begging me to turn something to mush. But the 200 rounds I have horded from the last surplus buy a friend and I did, would go WAAAAAAY to fast in a FAL, heck I haven't even brought out my Indian issue Enfield as it fires the same stuff.

bringing back an old post.......

in keeping with the title of this thread.. question about 22 caliber ammo...

how long is it good, I ask because when going through my fathers things today ( he passed away Mon.... 86 ) and found a box of 22 shorts... he hadn't fired a gun in at least 50 yrs... visual inspection , they look fine... anyone think there is a reason not to go and pop off a few rounds ?
