OK, next question: if all i have is a little freelance income and some mileage deductions, is Schedule C required or can I accomplish these entries with the Premier or Deluxe versions?

Do you have a 1099-MISC for your freelance work? If so, the Deluxe version will work just fine. You can deduct mileage with that one too, IIRC.

I do the farm and it's weird forms, the wifes commercial fishing and it's weird forms, plus the various other Schedule C business ventures all with the deluxe version.

It's really only when you get into rentals and complex depreciation games and such that you need to go up to the next level.

Hopefully that's not too much of a greased pig answer for you.

I don't know if you can fill out a Schedule C in "interview" mode (I've only entered freelance income from a 1099-MISC), but it's easy to get to.

In Interview Mode, Click "View -> Forms". Click "Forms -> Add or View Forms" Start typing "Schedule C" into the search box that comes up, and you'll have the option of filling out a full Schedule C, or two different versions of C-EZ.
