Well, since this thread is back anyway, I'll post my update.
I recently acquired a '94 Peavey Reactor, which is their Tele copy. It's astoundingly good. This is from the penultimate year Peavey was doing their guitar manufacturing in the states, so I got some 'Murican-made twang for less than $300. Surf green, MOTS pickguard, maple fingerboard, blade-style single coils. The neck is a little more modern than I usually like (it's fairly wide and flat, and I usually like 'em thick 'n' chunky), but it's actually a welcome change from the rest of my old stuff.
If you come across a US-made Peavey, snap it up. They're worth every penny to a real player who doesn't care what the brand on the headstock is.
