This woman is a "community activist" and has made a name for herself squatting in a forclosed home and doing other questionably legal things, but what happened here is IMO overreaching by the police and wrong. Video is linked in the story.

I thought it had just become illegal to tape the police. Ludicrous, but illegal.

That's near home for me. (At least it was once.) The 19th Ward can be unpleasant.

If documenting Police activity is now illegal, what will John Bunnell do next?

the officer says near the beginning of the video that he doesn't want her around because she's anti-police, then starts saying he doesn't feel safe.

If you're a cop and being recorded makes you feel unsafe, I don't want you being a cop. You're either the worlds biggest weenie, or you know you're likely to do something you shouldn't. Either way, find a new job.

The guy has a gun, a club, handcuffs and a 4000lb. car, yet a housewife makes him feel unsafe?

I think that law came around right after Rodney King.

Certainly. But douchebags with state sanctioned power over others are a bigger problem than douchebag "activists" with cameras pretty much every time.

It's illegal in Mass. because of a deliberate misinterpretation of the "two-party wiretapping" law. Basically, it's boils down to arresting you for covering them abusing their power:

Could she have filmed it from inside her home? Can they come in and stop her then? What about surveillance footage from nearby security cameras(if any)? Does that also make them feel unsafe? If so, why are they legal? Things that make you go "Hmmmm".

Update - the police decided to have 4 officers with rulers issue parking tickets to her supporters who were meeting at a house and were parked more than the regulation 12" from the curb. Did they not think this too would be videotaped and make them look vindictive and even more ridiculous?

And probably too close to the corner, and probably left running while unattended....

Defense (public defender) motion to dismiss the charge against her will be heard on Monday.

I saw a local sheriff car do that once. I followed him, got the car number and a basic description of the drive, then reported him.

Got a call from internal affairs and filed a report. Kind of a BS deal, but I am CERTAIN he would have given me a ticket for the same thing, and as a police office, openly defying basic traffic laws (yes there were other cars around) is very inappropriate in my mind.

Just because IA is investigating doesn't mean anything will happen.
