I just (quickly) read the story on Yahoo about why women are not being allowed to ski jump at the Olympics.....how ridiculous. The "excuses" given for why this has been the case in the past and why it will continue into the forseeable future are laughable? ASSININE? truely Chauvanistic?

I am by no means a champion of women's rights, and obviously not a follower of sports (Olympic, or otherwise) but why there are events such as 1 AND 2 man luge, but ABSOLUTELY no events where women ski jump.....IN THE 21ST CENTURY?

Once again, the IOC shows the WORLD just how dumb they are.

"There are 20 in all, including 10 from Canada. The 19-year-old de Leeuw and 18-year-old Tanaka – both from Calgary – are the only two women forerunners, whose job is to jump first, making sure the hill is in good shape before the men's ski jumping competition."

they can Pre-Jump, but not compete. Really? in 2010? really? I am sure there will be womens ski jumping in the 2012 games. that is if the world doesn't self destruct.

Gian Franco Kasper, FIS president and a member of the IOC, said that he didn't think women should ski jump because the sport "seems not to be appropriate for ladies from a medical point of view."

In April 2009, Van and nine other female jumpers sued the Vancouver Organizing Committee (VANOC) for violating the ban on gender discrimination in Canada's Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The British Columbia Supreme Court ruled that although the IOC's decision did qualify as gender discrimination, as an international organization they were not required to obey Canada's laws and that VANOC had no authority to tell them which sports they could and could not include.

so basically, the VANOC doesn't want to lose their meal ticket that is the olympics.

It is purely a logistical problem. The drop from the counter top to the floor combined with the short length of the kitchen makes for a really boring event.....

    Thank you Strizzo,

VANOC isn't pushing the IOC....each "hand" is slapping the other on the back in this matter.

I guess what really bugs me about this, is the "matter of fact" way the IOC has let this situation happen. PLUS, I remember when I was younger, and still watching the Olympics, how great it was that folks from ALL OVER the globe got to meet and compete....even from countries that were at "war" with each other. But I was young and stupid(?) because I didn't think about (or care?) about the sports women did and didnot compete in. I don't like to throw the word around, but it's plain stupid not letting women compete in ANY sport where there is ski jumping involved.

If I didn't think there had to be at least some (token?) women on the IOC, I'd say they were a bunch of dumb, old farts.

I won't hold my breath waiting for the "major news outlets" to FINALLY wake up to this "issue".

it seems to be becoming more and more obvious that the IOC is run by a bunch of idiots. look at the summer games, there is basketball, a decidedly american sport, but no golf, a very international sport. and table tennis, really....

Look, its quite simple. Women cannot ski jump because the wind will blow up their skirts, showing the leg above the knee. Only a wanton trollop would participate in such behavior. Only a pornographer would put such a thing on display.

The IOC recognizes wanton trollops in the skating disciplines. It must stop there....

Maybe it has something to do with the length of time, courses and watch-ability of golf? I dunno, personally I don't miss golf that much.

I know why there's no Golf in the Olympics. Cause if added golf then they'd have to add the paint drying competition. But at least in the paint drying competition there'd be a variety of colors to break up the monotony.
