ONONDAGA, N.Y. (AP) — A motorcyclist participating in a protest ride against helmet laws went over his handlebars, hit his head on the pavement and was killed, police said Sunday.

I still wish all states would just dump the helmet laws... and seatbelt laws for that matter... and just make people deal with the consequences themselves (aka law suits need not apply)... but we all know that'll never happen cause ya know... "the children"
...make for over 18, the problem is when they aren't killed and we have to deal with all the unplanted vegetables.

I don't mind seatbelt laws, but I really wish stability control, traction control, and airbags were optional so that we could import kei cars. (I love the honda beat.)

A lot of dumb choppers don't have front brakes. Nearly all of them have an idiot without a helmet perched on the seat.
I don't see very many choppers any more without front brakes, but a LOT of riders are afraid of using them and just stomp on the rear brakes as if they were in a car.
The part that bothers me the most is that it reflects poorly on the entire motorcycle community.

Michigan is in process of repealing the helmet law....you can ride without one IF you carry 100,000 in Medical coverage.

Not being a motorcycle rider, will someone explain why they have seperate brakes.
Some larger modern bikes have linked brakes. On many bikes, the front brake is a hydraulic disc or two, and the rear brake is a cable actuated drum, which pretty much necessitates separate systems. Not to mention that bikes experience far greater weight transfer under braking than a car, and locking up either wheel can be very bad, so having independent control of them can be safer. Bikes with linked brakes tend to be big bikes that are extremely unlikely to lift the rear wheel, and may also incorporate some form of ABS/electronic brake control.

reminds me of this guy on a liter bike... he had a helmet... perched on the back seat/hanging... recall he was so busy holding it keeping it from flying off he almost crashed... was amusing... almost as awesome as watching the rest of the squids run around in a tank and flops with no lid...
