I think the 500 in r500 stands for 500 mph...

funny how the porsche could only "catch up" on the long straights were it's aerodynamics and taller gearing would give it an advantage. the 7 certainly left it for dead on the twisty parts

I want a Caterham, hell, just a Locost, so bad...
I got to spend a day with a Caterham Roadsport 150 SV in Scotland last week, and it was soooo much fun.

What is the price for that Caterham? What is the price for the Porsche? Mine Gott, that funny looking thing is a track beast.

Aww weak, the video cuts off right before the P-car goes flying by! But yeah, the outcome of that battle was pretty obvious to begin with.

watch part 2.. the porsche does take the lead for a short time before the 7 takes it back.. they then switch back and forth one more time before the Porsche falls way behind through the curves.
It's enough to make me want to ditch my fiat and build a locost

Obvious to us, maybe. Ask a 911 guy who never races his car - or a dealer.
Awesome to watch, though. I would probably tighten it up a bit - seemed a bit loose. -

There's a lap 2 video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxwRgSZiKTkThat Caterham is like a movie car - want to go faster? Just shift into the next gear! Hee hee heeeeee
As for the car being loose - the guy's trying to put down 260 hp through a couple of tires that are probably 195s or 205s, with about 300 lbs on each one. Add to that the fact that Caterham drivers hate understeer and they're really easy to control slides, and I don't see anything wrong with the setup
Maybe a little bit less rear brake bias, that gets him at least once.

Makes a Miata seem underpowered and heavy, huh? How can I convince the wife that I need one? Really... anyone?

Hmmm...
Probably not gonna cut it.

With a detachable steering wheel, they probably make great a commuter!

They're easy to park because they're small!
They don't depreciate! Actually, that's pretty much true.
Interesting, here's the Porsche in-car from the second lap: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRI5Zdtqe8U
Looks and sounds to me like street tires on the 911, while the Cat is on Avons - which I believe are basically streetable R-compounds like a Toyo R888. And boy, does the Porsche move around a lot more.

Is that a Mythos Greek beer sticker on the side of the Catrham?!?

I still think I would take the cat over the gt2

Nad's of depleted uranium to drive a Se7en around the Green Hell that hard with only a roll bar not cage. That and a self-preservation-ectomy.

I had a similar thought, that's some hard driving for a cageless Cat. At least it was a private track day - probably a Porsche one based on the traffic. He didn't have to deal with motorcycle debris and tour buses, just the track itself. And it would seem he's been around it once or twice before.
