That's only true if you're talking about the turbo variant.

The lighter slick-top NA version sounds like a GREAT candidate for an LS1.

    Agreed!

    Winning!

Seems like a lot of work and money to make less power than the stock motor will with normal bolt ons.

That's why GM makes bolt ons as well

I'll give 5:1 odds that it would be cheaper to make 500whp out of a Z32 TT with original motor than it would to make 500whp out of an LS1 powered Z32 TT.

That said, if we're starting with the light n/a slicktop, bets are off.

You're lucky I don't know a damn thing about hopping up an LS1, cause that would probably be a challenge I would take up.

I'll bet I could get to 800 HP first, anyway.

wow I'm really glad for all the responses.
I knew the z32 turbos were heavy but didn't know they were that heavy.
I definitely wouldn't buy one of either if it was n/a, but I definitely didn't know the vg30et was that stout!
thanks guys, now I have a lot to think about. 280zx is in the mix as well there. 240 definitely would be but I cant see finding one in good shape for a reasonable amount of money, really. plus it would probably need a swap to satisfy.

I have always wanted a z32. Turbo would be great if i could keep it running, but I'd settle for a NA one.

I think I have always had a bit of grudge against the whole Z-series since they are a big part of what killed off my beloved LBCs in US.

I don't think they made a non 2+2 slick top NA version.

hmmm I am seeing that a vg30dett is only 1-2k
this isn't grassroots, but how cool would it be to put that into something like a 240 (heard of it being attempted but don't know if they finished) or a 510 or an s130? how wide is the engine? like ls1 wide or what? It'd be simple to find an s13 ad then I could see myself spending the next two years figuring out how to make it work and making engine mounts and all..
plus it wouldn't really ruin the weight distribution at all, unlike an rb swap..
    hmm..

I'd say probably as wide or wider when you include the turbos.

Why wouldn't you just find a Z32 with a blown motor? They can be had just as cheap as 240s due to drift-related price increase. They are tougher, fit more tire, look better, much shorter (height and width) and have a better suspension. Only downside is the weight.

Also the VG30DETT weighs significantly more than an LSx

I was oogeling this one just the other day on cars.com it's got a RB25DET. Super clean and cool, but I can think of about a 1000 other things I'd rather spend $15K on.

We've have a few come in every month at work (Nissan Service) they all seem to be "needy" cars, and the techs all cuss working on them.

That's a local car... makes well over 600whp.

And yes... it's just as beautiful in real life. AND he's brought it to an autocross or two.
