Now that you guys have rightfully achieved an affluence that lets you build a Dream Garage we would like to see an article on how to set up your First Garage. Things like what tools, where to put them, how big an air compressor, minimal power tools, what kind of welder (if any), electrical supply for all these and where to learn how to use this stuff to fix things instead of just take them apart. All this should be sized and priced for the enthusiastic but bucks down beginner. The primary example in the Dream article was to use junked kitchen cabinets from a Kitchen renovator to start organizing your First Garage.

FWIW - I'm GregW on GRM Forum.

I was lucky, I did a low level recon of my hostpitals dumpster and got about 8 or 9 steel desk/cabinets with roller bearing drawers. Plus a couple of really nice office chairs that just needed to have some parts switched around to work right.

A compressor is a must but I've learned to put it somewhere other than the garage. It's noisy and takes up precious floor space. Mine's in my basement and I just pipe lines to where they'll be needed, such as my blast cabinet (also in the basement) and to a hose reel in the garage.

Are you single? It sure sounds like it.

I've been married 35 years. My wife and I compromise on a lot of issues. However, to paraphrase my lovely bride. "There's no way you'll move anything from your Garage to my house because it's to loud!! And by the way, you need to rinse your oil stinking clothes and rags out better before you bring them into My House! That's why you have that utility sink out there."

In fact, once she got going on the "you love your damned cars too much" jag, there is no telling where it would end up.

Nope, married 35 years. The basement is finished and very livable but I have a room in the corner, walled off with a door, where my compressor resides, along with the blast cabinet, small workbench, and storage for many parts.

I'm lucky in that the basement is configured in such a way to make this possible. Wife is good with it.
