There are a lot of folks who really love the Suzuki 1.3 engine. There's a punch in there for a 1.3 liter, and modern alloys make them pretty durable. Neat swap!

As a long-time owner and racer of Spridgets, I think that the smaller, lighter engines (like this 1.3 Suzuki or a 1.4 Rover K motor) work best....if an engine swap if contemplated.
Personally, I think the standard 1275 "A" series BMC pushrod motor with the ribcage trans is the very best choice, but I know folks like to hot rod these cars.
I've seen many, many classics spoiled with engines that are too big and out of character. Staight line speed is OK, but if a car weighs significantly more, has less balance or handles less-well, it doesn't make sense to me. I could make my lawn tractor faster with a 5.0 engine, but would it be "better"? Nope. Not in my view. Obviously, your mileage may vary on this.
I'm pretty interested in the new 1.4 Cruze engine and the 2.0 Duratech engine. Those seem like they might be good choices for sports car swaps.

What a neat install! I can't imagine anyone taking a great car like that and putting in yet another V-8! That's so early 20th century! I've seen many a nice Model A, '53 Chevy, & a bunch more totally ruined with the V-8 w/Auto swap. I can't imagine doing that to a Bugeye or a Spridget!

Yeah, I have a G13B stashed in the garage as I plan the swap into a RHD mini. The engine & trans are a bit lighter than the A series and standard 4 speed combo it will replace and gives me 100+hp (stock), 5 speeds and FI. It should be a fun package.

I had plans for a Zetec and a pinto 4 speed for a Capri mk2 I recently sold. I weighed the zetec and it came in around 250 lbs with an automatic flywheel, both manifolds, coil w/wires and some random bracketry. The Ford Type E weighed 58 lbs without the aluminum bell. The 4 speed bolts up nicely, which would be an easy conversion to a 5 speed Type 9 since they share bell to gearbox pattern.

I agree with aeronca- I did a 4age swap into my Midget, and might have considered the G13 a little more closely were I to do it again. What tipped me toward the 4age was the extra 50hp for the same amount of PITA. It's probably 50lb heavier than the G13, but about 25 lb heavier than the 1275 by my reckoning. The front pulley is still behind the front "axle" centerline though, so the weight is mostly midships.
