The Exomotive Exocet is a newly developed kit car derived from the 1990-2005 Mazda Miata that is engineered and manufactured in Atlanta, Georgia.
Exomotive takes an unorthodox approach by utilizing modern manufacturing technologies to achieve a level of quality and precision previously unavailable from small-run kit car companies.
The Exocet's build philosophy is to remove the Miata's unibody, panels, and interior from everything that makes it go, turn or stop. Then, adorn what remains with a lightweight and rigid tubular chassis.
The result? A weight shaving of more than 800 pounds that amplifies every aspect of performance. With less mass, your vehicle accelerates quicker, turns sharper, and stops shorter. Finalized cars are weighing in between 1,400 to 1,600 pounds depending on components, and maintaining near 50/50 weight distribution.

Think of this car as the ultimate running start:
This frame is the "sport" variant, and has an additional roll hoop diagonal with harness bar. It has also been upgraded with welded-in 18 gauge steel floors for extra cabin protection.
Both the frame and undercarriage have been powder coated by Industrial Powder Coatings, with an 80% hyper-chrome chassis finish and a satin black undercarriage coating for premium aesthetics and longevity.
Donor components were sourced from a 70k mi. 2001 LS Mazda Miata which spent its life in salt-free Southern California. This is the newest evolution of Miata that is compatible with the Exocet.

Water pump and gaskets, timing belt and idler/tensioner pulleys, F/R main seals, camshaft seals, thermostat and gasket, valve cover gasket, alternator belt, NGK spark plugs, Mazdaspeed Competition engine mounts, fuel filter, shifter gasket, Mazdaspeed aluminum shifter bushing, and K&N hi-flow air filter.

The assembly of an Exocet is a clear-cut procedure. However, like any project with many pieces, it demands time and attention to cross the finish line smoothly. Acquisition, transportation, dismantling, and disposal of the donor car are involved processes with many small variables and complications. Starting from ground zero can be a rewarding endeavor, but you will be met with many minor frustrations and expenses along the way. This car should circumvent many of those headaches. With few aftermarket parts, it provides an excellent platform to build upon. It can be viewed as an unmodified and well maintained Miata ready for personalization.
Lastly, like most high quality limited run products there is a wait time: currently 20 to 22 weeks for a kit unpainted. Factor a bit more time and $600 to $900 for powder coating prior to shipment, dependent on color. If you are intending on constructing an Exocet in the near future, this is an easy jump on the 2015 track season with the major hassles defeated.
