You can try to reflow it with a hair dryer. But, even if that works I would suggest you mainly do that to retrieve your save files.

E: Actually, the Ylod doesn't affect the HD, right? So why not just look into buying a new system or used sans hd and replace it with the old one?

Have to reformat the drive, when putting it into new ps3. And I did do the hair dryer trick. Don't know how soon I will replace it. Depends on what kind if deal I can find.

With the new systems out, you may want to save up for one if possible. If not, I've got a friend that may want to sell his so he can afford an XBO. I'd have to look into it, though.
