Hey, I am looking at a bike and it would need tires to pass inspection. What is the best place to get a good price on some basic sport touring tires? Is there like a motorcycle equivalent to tirerack.com and such?

    Thanks in advance.

Dennis Kirk and Bike Bandit are two decent places to start.

edit: Don't forget to check prices and availability at local motorcycle shops in your area as well. You're going to have to get the tires mounted and balanced, so you're probably going to have to go to one of them anyway.

I got my front tire from a local shop; their price with tax was within a few bucks of BikeBandit's sale price after shipping. Might as well support the local guys one in a while.

I agree with the supporting locals, but since I don't have the bike and am working on buying it as my first, I really don't know where to go. I am more interested in getting a ball park price on tires to use as a negotiating tool.

My local shop guy here in the SF bay area said he couldn't compete with out of state competition on prices. With free shipping and no sales tax I guess many people were ordering from Oregon and having him install them. I guess buying out of state with free shipping basically covers the cost of installation.

The mechanic says he installs many tires from: motorcyclesuperstore.com

I never used them but when I get the bike back together I will.

I actually found a cheap set of <90 shipped. If it had free shipping, it would have been 65 for the two tires. Just basic cheap sport tourers.

I order my tires from Dennis Kirk or Motorcycle Superstore, depending on what else I'm also going to be ordering as I rarely just need/want tires. MS has a lower limit for free shipping, $80 I think, but DK is faster to my door. I mount my tires at home and don't bother with balancing (hard to tell with knobs).
