Kenny Roberts at the Peoria Illinois TT, XS650 Yamaha:

Scott Parker at the Houston Astrodome, XR750 Harley:

It took big ol' brass ones to go ripping off a jump at ~80 MPH on one of these big heavy beasts, particularly when you see they had maybe 4" of suspension travel.

Thats my buddy Kevin Clark a 4.09 with the white flag. To bad they didn't get to see his twin checkered fly. Kevin a life long Yamaha fan said the sound when Kenny blew by was unlike anything he's ever heard...

You can see Kevin's twin checkers at 3.42 in this one, He uses twins for main events.

We got to go to Springfield mile this year in sept WOW...... We won tickets for 2012 at the banquet raffle so looks like we'll be making the trip back. If you've never been you have no idea what your missing.

Oh the folk from the IMDA Illinois Motorcycle Dealers Association do a great job with ticket packages and hotel deals etc. If you decide to go check for package rates. We splurged and stayed at the Crown Plaza as did many of the race teams, had drinks with a few of the tuners and mech's down in the bar. Chris Carr even showed up. He's not my favorite rider but dam he has tallent.

What this guy did on the E36 M3 he rode involves big, brass, pendulous ones.

While I've never been to the race, I've heard them run during the State Fair. The noise level and vibration is right up there with Nascar. Pretty amazing to hear it from such a relatively small displacement.

My dad took me to the Springfield mile when I was about 10. We rode his GS1100 there and back...I was asleep most of the way back, luckily it had bags on it that kept me on it. It was about 75 miles one way.
