I am thinking about parting with my 2008 CAAD8 road bike. I was only able to put just over 200 miles on it since I bought it a year ago and I think I want to get back into mountain biking. How do I list this bike on Craigslist to make sure I inform potential buyers and what do you think it's worth? It's an Aluminum frame with a carbon fiber fork and a carbon fiber seat post. It's basically completely stock. I'd like to keep the pedals.

you will take a bath on that sale. Put on some 700 x however wide a 700c tire you can fit, a set of stronger wheels, a suspension stem and seatpost a la cane creek and take it to the woods.

That sir is a badass bike. You probably could beefen that up and turn it into a cyclocross bike..

Not really. If it's anything like my CAAD5, there isn't nearly enough tire clearance.

seat/chainstay clearance will be an issue, but it is a great bike, theyre just plentiful. You wont get much out of it on resale, at least not close to what you paid for it. you could get a decently wide set of cyclo-x tires in there though, enough for a bit of fun.

Just out of curiousity, How much are you looking to get for the bike?

I don't really care what I get for it. Fair market value I suppose (with a full understanding that the market drives that value). Do you want to buy it?

I have three bikes as is and bringing a fourth home wouldn't probably go over too well. I'll keep an eye out for anybody I know who is looking for some wheels..
