I had to get insurance on the tracker, since it's a rather old bike and won't be ridden a whole lot I took a shot at collector bike insurance. Turns out according to Hagerty even though I have a regular daily driver (the Trooper), I must also have a daily driver motorcycle in order to qualify for collector bike insurance.

What a crock. Progressive got my business, plus was only $27 a year more. State Farm (my carrier for the house and the Trooper) was stupid expensive, like twice Progressive's rate.

That's odd, when I talked to Hagerty last year re insuring some of my classic bikes they didn't mention that at all.

I really have to get my act together and get these bikes titled.

Did you have to have the trooper and other motorcycle at Hagerty or just have them? I have a daily rider and cars with Alstate and was thinking of putting my 74 honda on collector insurance once it is rideable.

how did Dairyland compare? I hear they're general the best source for bike insurance.

I've been with Dairyland for years and years, they do have really good rates.

I didn't check Dairyland, need to remember to do that. The Hagerty rep said that if the bike was a 1975 or older and was part of a collection then no I didn't have to have a DD bike. Otherwise, yes I had to have a DD bike even though the XS is 31 years old. I didn't get into a deep discussion of what else to insure with them but if they are like Grundy (Jensen coverage) then they don't get into the DD market at all.

Got a letter from Hagerty today reiterating the reason they turned me down was 'lack of regular use motorcycle'.

Sometimes you need to talk to a different agent. By no means are all of them worth a shuck.
