I need a couple of - fairly common - parts for my modded Airhead. Namely a deep sump/sump extension and an oil thermometer. In the UK I usually got my specialist BMW parts from Germany but I'm not sure I want to pay the postage for larger items from Europe.

Any recommendation?

Thats funny Tim. When i had my Toaster I happen to travel to Bonn Germany for work. Was their 3 weeks and desided to stop in to a large dealer there. Guy was pissed i asked about parts for older machine. Flat out told me NO... We only sell new bikes and parts. I came back here and ordered the carb kits from my local euro dealer http://ajcycle.com/ Could have gotten them cheaper for other places but Aj's a nice 40 RT ride for me

Thiers Max as well but there a nice all day ride... http://www.maxbmwmotorcycles.com/fiche/fiche.aspx

I've been dealing with The Partshaus for my R-90. Two VDO gauges for the S fairing; $25.

I used Bob's BMW in MD pretty exclusively when I was parts guy at an independent BMW specialist. I can't comment on their prices since we got a dealer discount, but their service is absolutely top notch.

I'd definitely give Bob's a call. Great shop, good people. BMW prices of course, but he got started and made his name selling used and new parts.

I worked at Bob's when it was still "Bob's Used Parts" and it was in his garage/attic/basement in Wheaton, MD. Talk about movin' on up. His BMW dealership/museum/shrine to the BMW 2-wheel experience is spectacular.

I've still got the fairing from my last BMW, an '83 R100RS I converted to an S (or CS). I'm picking up a long-dormant '83 R100RT this fall and making a perfect bone stock RS out of it.

So, another vote for Bob Henig.
