We're getting a small group lined up for a ride Sunday.

    Who's louder?

    A piped 600cc sport bike with a 12K Rpm

    or

    a HD Dyna 1400?

  • April 8, 2011 10:45 a.m. mndsm SuperDork

Does the dyna have screamin eagles or shorties on it?

Easily measured with a Decibel meter. What about a 2 stroker? I bet some of them could be equally loud. My fifty continually gets flogged to 12K.

The Hardly may not be louder, but definitely more obnoxious. At least to me. I love the sound of a sport bike twisted above 10K

Depends on the tune. I could make either one louder or quieter than the other with bit of fueling adjustment :)

The red and purple is definitely a louder paint job.

under 8,000 RPM that sport bike will not be that loud. From 8k to the 12k red line it will make some noise.

The harley's pipes will be saving lifes from idle up to the 4,231 rpm redline.

Looking at the pipe kit on the bike, I'd say the hog was louder. Now were the bike wearing a shorty like the drag bikes like to do these days... it'd be different.

Just like in music the lower tones will carry father and impact more. Harley will "seem" louder due to the lower tone even at the same DB output.

Same debate on 2 vs 4 strokes

The D&D pipe will be a screamer. Way louder than a Yoshimura or similar larger can style.

  • stroker

I'm not sure the question is related to raw db, it's probably related to pitch as which is perceived as "louder". Lessee... Trumpet Blare or Wet Fart...... Hmmmmmm

Awesome, I rarely laugh that hard at forum humor. Well done.

    I'm sober right now, too.

    Depends.

    At full wail, the 600.

Sitting at a stop light with the dufus constantly blipping his throttle. Or backing into a spot at the local Hooters. Or in traffic everytime he pulls in the clutch. HD every time.

At around 2 AM this morning, I was woken up by an extremely loud sport bike. It must have had a GP shorty pipe or something. I was awake long enough to wonder how fast the guy was going after wringing it out into the top of fourth gear. I then fell back asleep.

If you take the one with a belt drive, they'll think your wife lent it to you.

Because of that cute comment about belt drives, your local one-percenters are heading over to your house this very moment.

Just give them a few hours; there may be a few mechanical issues, corners, or bars on the way.
