My friend found himself floundering on the rocks of finacial despair and needed money. He was talking about his "beater" bike and had a standing offer for $1700 which he was considering.

"Wait, I haven't seen the bike in 10 years, you've owned it for over 20, and you'd take $1700 for it?

    I jokingly said I'd give hime $1800.

    He accepted.

First, I don't have $1800 but given the right motivation I could find it. I did.

The bike is a BMW R90/6 that has the dual disc S conversion up front and the Bing carbs have been replaced by flat slide Mikunis. It comes with a stock seat, the factory solo seat you see here and Krauser hard luggage. It currently has an aftermarket two into one pipe, but I also have the stock pipes. I may go for stock pipes with aftermarket mufflers, but first I have to wash it.

That's a sweet ride, Dan! Some cleaning and detailing l and, voila, awesome sport-tourer.

I'd keep the current configuration unless SWMBO likes to snuggle-up behind you.

SWMBO likes the back of this one better.

That's a super-nice /6, and I'm not advocating doing anything unnecessary to it.

But, sometimes you just get ideas...

Nice addition to the family. This one may have fit in the trailer.

yeah... ditch the fairing, ad some clip ons, and a smaller seat were the first things I thought of too

BMW's were always "socially acceptable." Not a Harley, mind you, but we'd let you ride with the pack, unlike the Honduhs that would just have to meet us at the bar.

Looks like a nice find. I wouldn't toss the fairing, particularly if it's a factory R90S part - they're worth some money.

I was going to write a response to the Harley comment, but I decided to bite my tongue instead.

That's the 3rd flat twin BMW I've seen change hands this week. Must be a sign.

Let me know if you decide you hate it. I need an excuse to get back to NY.

I'm keeping it, but you never need a reason to come up and sit in Wally's hot tub.

I know, air cooled twins are bird of a feather, but I think the Germans have been at it longer.

Great looking bike! Don't futz with it, just get it into running shape and ride the piss out of as doG intended.

I like ice cream. All flavors. If you like vanilla and I like pistachio we can still have a cone together.

That BMW is damned fine. I'd clean it and ride it. It's a beautiful time capsule.

I spent Friday and part of Saturday just washing it. I never thought I would ever use a power washer on a bike ....

HoYeah . Dirtier than a Pittsburgh streetwalker's feet.

I'll take new pictures this weekend (Memorial). In the mean time, think about what color you would paint the tank, fenders and side covers.

No question. If I ever get a BMW the same as your vintage?

    This!

Daytona Orange. More pics of parts painted this color here.

    AAAAHHH!!!! Soooooo jealous!

I can have all the parts of my R/60 in the back of my rust free van and drop both off at your house at the end of the month.

That offer stands as long as the snow hasn't fallen and I can ride it back to OK.

I can even throw in an 80 GS 750 project plus another 1/3 of one...

    set of steak knives?....

    smoke and a pancake?

    no?

Smoke paint jobs are notoriously hard to get right, or at least right enough for the attention of the Beemer nerds it will certainly attract.

Now, there's a fella in town here who used to be a BMW shop owner, now retired, who does one or two a year, with hand stripes. I might could get a phone number if you're interested.
