Well, I made it back. I'm either not as young as I used to be or completely out of practice - "quick" drive down to Sacramento and a ride back and I'm knackered and my behind feels like I need a more comfy seat for longer distances. Embarrassing to think that I didn't have a problem doing 400-500 mile days in Europe.
Anyway, here's the new DD bike:
2002 ZRX1200, a little over 29k on the clock and mostly clean enough to eat off. Needs an oil change, a preventative brake fluid change and I'll probably change the coolant just in case, too. Other than that, the suspension needs tweaking a little as all adjusters are backed off fully and the resulting ride is a little bouncy for my taste.
Oh, and it is true that you see more on a bike than you do from the car - I've done the run up and down US50 to/from Sacto at least a dozen times and today was the first time that I noticed the sign for "Berkeley Camp". Made me think of GRM and chuckle.

I've actually got one already - an '81 R100RS with the rare Krauser 4V head conversion. Trouble is that I can't insure it until I sorted out my DD bike, as Hagerty is pretty much the only company that would insure it (grey import and all that) and they do require the DD bike.
Given that the DD bike situation is now sorted, I might actually get the insurance on the BMW sorted before the movement permit for it runs out :).

I found it surprisingly light when maneuvering it into the garage last night. Keep in mind I'm used to BMW tourers, though.
It's surprisingly compact as well.
