I put together a video of some tricks I learned in my years of accidentally dunking tools into dirty oil. The nice thing about being a clumsy oaf is that you eventually learn how to clean up after the messes you make:

I heard that acetone also helps to clear, isn't it?

Nice tips. I use Simple Green with a brush.

I occasionally give my ratchets a oil bath on purpose. It makes them work better. Everything else just gets wiped down as it goes in the box.
