That could be oil burning off, too.
Possibly. There's definitely a leak at the collector in this car- and most likely that's what that was.
That's why it sounds like a tractor?!
Yeah. Every single corolla built between 1993 and 2002 has an exhaust leak. They're more pronounced when it's cold. Usually right at the collector, which is right under where that is.
I swear mine didn't have a leak at the donut after I fixed it, for 2 months, then the muffler strap failed and the whole system bouncing around screwed it up again.
^ They all do it. Sooner or later. I've owned 3, and they've all done it.
I'll fix it again eventually when I feel like dropping the $40 on it, but it's going to need a new donut, bolts and springs(they were pretty messed up last time), and the ring between the cat and downpipe, as I should probably pop the apart and make sure there isn't a piece of donut gasket rattling around in there. Though come to think of it the this happened a year ago, so anything in there has probably burned up by now.
I should also replace the giant ass low hanging factory muffler while I'm at it, that would solve a lot of problems. The bottom of it looks like it was used as an anvil, and it's currently held up with TWO layers of galvanized pipe strap.
