I don't know how many times I have fought with these. This time I just put a wrench on and turned the nuts loose the pin didn't even fight me!!

Came in here to say that, the pin is dead soft steel, anything using a castle nut is going to be pretty well hardened, they shear off like they aren't even there. I'll usually trim the stubborn one flush with cutters and then hammer on an impact socket.

never stick a cotter pin in your nuts, no matter how old you are.
