I am making new inner fenders for the GTE. These are bent in all sorts of wacky ways and are fastened to the car with a bunch of threaded plates welded in different planes and angles. Without a straight edge to measure off of it gets difficult to accurately place the holes. The metal is already formed so....
Holes are 4mm so start with a 4mm machine screw
clip the head off, chuck into a drill and sharpen it on a belt sander or grinding wheel.
Now we have a blind center punch. Thread it into the first hole
Lay panel in place and tap on the (now hidden) center punch
Remove panel, flip over and locate your new mark.
Drill or punch your hole, repeat as necessary and congratulate yourself on a well laid out panel that fits perfectly!
Yeah I know this is minor and silly but the tech forum moves pretty slow and I want it to be the awesome resource we all know it can be.
