My sister got married this past Friday in Spokane, Washington. Now, being that I live less than 50 miles from Nevada, this presented an interesting conundrum... do I fly? Drive? Walk? Hitchhike? I had plenty of time off from work, and the possibilities were dizzying. Had a cup of coffee, thought about it for a bit, and then- Light Bulb! I can ride!!! So, I placed a call to me dear old Mum. "Mom, you mind if I borrow the 'Wing to go to Kate's wedding?". "No, go right ahead, John." "Cool!" Puts down the phone and squeals excitedly

So, plans were made. My chariot? a 1988 GL1500. My Destination? Spokane, nearly 600 miles away. In between? Some of the most beautiful country in the world.

I left early on Wednesday morning, travelled through Boise and jumped on Highway 55 North. Spent the rest of the day meandering through the mountains of Idaho as the road wended its way toward Washington. I partook of a beautiful wedding, excellent food, and as the Groom's newest brother, offered a toast that had everybody dabbing their eyes. I had a wonderful time and returned home on Saturday.

I apologize for the lack of photos, but I was all wound up and forgot to stop and take them. These are the only two I have.

In reply to singleslammer: there's always one...

The 'Wing originally belonged to my Grandpa. When he got to the point he could no longer hold up the bike due to his knees, he had hydraulic landing gear installed. While moving, they retract to the level of the saddlebags. It allowed him four more years of riding, and he passed away about two years after his last ride. He left the Bike to my mom.

Hwy 55 is a beautiful drive if you are not in a hurry. Its a great road to see the Idaho back country.

When I was stationed in Mountain Home, I'd occasionally take 55 north instead of 95 on my way up to Lewiston to visit my folks.

Of course this was during the summer months. It gets too dicey during winter.

Yeah. 55 in winter is a 4wd at 10mph proposition...
