So, I figure an automotive adventure is an automotive adventure, regardless of the reason for undertaking it. My Dad had a cardiology appointment today, at a specialist four hours south of where we live.

I got a call from my Mom at 8:15 this morning, whereupon she described to me the situation they found themselves in. It turns out, that at about the halfway mark of the trip, their trusty 2002 Ford Escape decided to be not so trusty anymore, and threw the driveline (It’s AWD). They had gotten a tow to a dealership in the nearest town, and were well and truly stuck.

At this point, being the loyal offspring that I am, I fired up the Covered Wagon, dropped my youngest off with Mrs Recon’s mother, and headed south. This was at 9:00. Did I mention I had to work today? At 3:00 this afternoon (swing shift)? Yeah...

So, I cannonballed down to the lovely little ville of Tremonton, Utah, picked up my folks, and made tracks back north. Mom then filled me in on the rest of the story- It turns out that at some point, they had lost all of the fluid in the transfer case, and the output yoke shaft separated itself from the rest of the vehicle, taking with it the driveline and any hope of forward motion.

We made it home at 1:45, just enough time for me to pack a lunch and head to work, and Mrs Recon took my parents to their home across town. I got to work a full shift on top of it, and everybody made it through safe and sound...

Anybody else have a crazy adventure today?

Does driving from Houston Tx to Clayton Nm. and back in 36 hours count?

In reply to 759NRNG :

Yes. You covered an awful lot of Texas, driving from the Gulf coast to NM...

What was the occasion?

My dear chiropractor needed a wing man to help retrieve a NASA CMC 2001 Camaro from Colorado that he found on RaceJunk. What impressed me most was the amount of prized rides('40 ford coupe-'75 laguna S3) that hide in plain sight in the hamlets along the way.  So with this CMC Camaro it fulfills his need for NOISE and brute acceleration  that his answers (yes plural)  can't seem to . Like I told him today I should have your problem.........too many race cars  wink
