New car reviews » 2009 Volkswagen CC 4Motion

Better than: Audi A4
But not as good as: Hyundai Genesis Sedan
GRM Bang For The Buck Index: 79.85

A Volkswagen CC appeared on our doorstep last week, and the car turned out to be a pretty swell way to get around.

The interior was comfortable and tasteful, and the ride felt composed under a variety of conditions. By most accounts, the CC also a very handsome car. If you’re looking for something with more sophisticated styling than its price tag would suggest, this car might be just the ticket.

The CC is no sports car, but the V6 was smooth and capable. It wasn’t wanting for power on the highway, but the car simply didn’t stir much excitement in our souls.

We put some highway miles on this one, and for that it’s nearly perfect—comfortable, quiet and powerful enough. Plus it has a big trunk, tons of interior room and distinctive looks.

Any negatives? Not really. Some of the center controls felt a little cheap—the rest of the car is really high-class—and VW has spoiled us with their DSG transmissions. This one gets the Tiptronic. It’s good, but it’s no DSG. The DSG will spoil you rotten.

My wife has the 2.0T with the 6 speed in her CC. It’s a great combination, but only available in the FWD Sport model. It’s a good balance between performance and fuel economy. We just finished a NY to FL round trip and saw a 31 MPG average at just under radar tripping speeds. Great car.

What's this?

If you're reading this, you've probably seen these odd links with funny names somewhere on the site and want to know what they're all about. Well, prepare to feel a bit more Net savvy. Those links are what the geeks call "social networks."

Social networking sites allow you to store and share links and pages across the Internet. It's like taking your bookmarks list and being able to see it from any computer.

Even better, social networks allow you to steer friends, relatives, colleagues and pretty much anyone else to the cool stuff you've found, so they have something better to do online than watching the skateboarding squirrel video on YouTube for the thirtieth time. You're making the world a better place.

The only catch is that while all the social networks are free, you do have to register. Each site has a slightly different focus, so take a look through the links and see which service suits you best.
