2017 Volvo XC90 T6 AWD Inscription new car reviews

Volvo's XC90 is the manufacturer's luxury SUV and this—the T6 Inscription—represents the highest tier of that model. And to triple the lux, our test car had about $20,000-worth of options piled on, including features like the 360-degree reverse camera, a Bowers & Wilkins premium sound system, heated seats front and rear and much more.

The engine is a four cylinder, but it cranks out 316 horsepower thanks to both turbocharging and supercharging.

So what do you get for over $70,000 of Volvo?

This is the Volvo product that I have really spent any amount of time driving and I came away impressed. The 2017 Volvo XC90 T6 AWD is a marvel of Swedish engineering. I called it the IKEA on wheels. It just did everything right.

I took it out the first evening and did some interstate driving and it was a dream to drive on the highway. The adaptive cruise control work flawlessly. The engine had plenty of power even in eco mode. You can change settings to comfort mode and be treated to hovercraft like floatation down the highway. Switch it to dynamic mode and you have a different beast altogether, with a major boost in horsepower and handling which was just joyous on backroads. Fuel economy was very good and I was averaging around 26 mpg without even trying to conserve fuel.

The cabin was one of the most simple, luxurious and spacious interiors I have ever been in. The seats were the most comfortable seats I have ever sat on. The instrumentation including the entertainment was laid out perfect and worked perfect. The sound system was incredible allowing you to change sound settings from studio, concert hall and individual preference. The interior was also extremely quiet when cruising down the road on any surface. The sunroof extended almost front to back of the roof and created a natural canopy to the outside without the outside creeping in.

All of this adds up to a car I would be able to spend an entire day traveling in. I have spent a lot of time in the comparable BMW SUV products along with Jaguar and Range Rover and have to say I am now a huge fan of the Volvo XC90 T6 AWD and would easily choose it over the competition.

This thing is awesome. I could stop this review there, but I'll continue.

It has more than enough punch from the "dual-charged" powerplant.

But the most noticeable virtue of this car is its luxurious interior. It's just a nice place to spend time. Keep in mind our test car was outfitted with all the fancy options, but heated seats—front and rear—a huge touch screen, 360-degree parking camera and much more made this one stand out.

If I was shopping for a luxury SUV, this would be one of my top choices.

I read that as a T6 Inception and wondered if Volvo had some new marketing campaign where they infiltrated peoples' dreams.

How did you like the Concert Hall setting on the stereo?

A friend told me they got a $105,000.00 version on the showroom floor. I remember the turmoil when the Volvo MSRP went over $10,000.

I suppose Inscription is a slightly better name for your top trim level over Autobiography.

Only just though.

In reply to Tactical Penguin:

Inscription isn't the top trim of the XC90. For that, you need the XC90 Excellence. Yup.
