GRM Surviving the Streets
A few members of the Grassroots Motorsports staff spent time with the BMW CCA Foundation to coach some young drivers on car control this past Saturday as part of their Street Survival program.

Working with members of the Central Florida Region of the SCCA, each student was assigned a coach for the day. The coaches rode along with their students through multiple runs of 7 exercises, including a familiarization with ABS, emergency lane changes, and a wet skid pad. The coaches job was to provide feedback and positive reassurance as the students learned the limits of their own cars.
The driving exercises were complimented by a couple of classroom sessions where the students were given an introduction to concepts like weight transfer and the importance of looking ahead. These lessons payed immediate dividends to attentive students as they tackled the next batch of exercises. At the end of the day, all of the students were presented with a certificate of completion and a pin. GRM staff members Tom, David, Per and Kim all felt pretty good about the event and look forward to doing another event like it in the future.
I walked away feeling really good about it and wanting to tell more people about it.

I’ve instructed for this program in the Kansas City area for a couple years now. FANTASTIC program that really seems to be getting some traction now (pardon the pun)
