For more than a decade our Tire Rack Ultimate Track Car Challenge has offered an open invitation to all lovers of speed: Bring your car with all the horsepower, downforce and engineering you can conceive to set the fastest lap possible around Virginia International Raceway.

Will Au-Yeung took that challenge and ran with it like Forrest Gump. His Vibrant Performance 2012 Honda Civic Si makes over 800 horsepower and still puts the power down through the front wheels. How? A good driver and the downforce surface area similar to a medium-sized billboard.

This thing doesn’t just look the part, it puts down the lap times to match. Just this weekend, Will set a new front-wheel-drive lap record at Road Atlanta, at a staggering 1:19.509. Not only does that smash the previous front-wheel-drive record by almost four seconds, it’s actually the fastest lap Global Time Attack has ever recorded at Road Atlanta. And it’s front-wheel drive!

Want to get in on the action? Special GRM Experience tickets will get you out on track, premium parking, hospitality and even a free T-shirt. Tickets are available here.

This event could not happen without the support of our partners: Tire Rack, Honda, Koni, Lucas Oil, BimmerWorld, Mach V Motorsports, AMT Motorsport, SPA Technique and Ford.

Will you be live streaming this nonsense? As someone who just spent the week driving tracks in a MUCH slower 8th gen Civic, I'm on the edge of my seat to see this car run.

Yes, we'll be making live broadcasts throughout the weekend, and we'll be sure to provide a closer look at this one.

This thing makes me think of Chris Rado's 1200hp FWD Scion tC time attack car. Whatever happened to that thing?

I'll be there but am unsure how I could put up any sort of reasonable quality stream

In reply to NickD :

That particular car was never fully developed.  That was the AWD car.   His FWD was successful for many years, but after about 8 years, all his times have fallen to Will and his Super Civic!

Both cars have been mothballed/parted as Scion pulled out of the game.
