Miller Now Welding in Full Color

Miller Electric is now offering its ClearLight Lens Technology on all of its digital welding helmets. Instead of casting a green tint like most traditional welding lenses, ClearLight (the bottom images in the above composite) lets the true colors show through.

What is the purpose of this?  Maybe if you are welding titanium?

Would be curious myself. I suppose the contrast of differing colors would be nice, but if you have bright enough spot lighting on your work piece, I'm not sure what the benefit would be. Hopefully someone with some insight will enlighten us. =)

Brighter "undarkened" state, less chance the welder pulls the helmet off to look at something, less eye injuries. Anything that helps one see better when welding is huge. I'm curious how they do it - the shading part of the spectrum I would assume is similar or identical to the usual lens, but shades less of the ends of the spectrum on either side.
