If you were involved with SCCA activities in South Florida–or via the SCCA Foundation–then you likely knew John M. Zuccarelli III–shown on the left alongside Rennie Bryant, another South Florida SCCA fixture. Zuccarelli was usually the guy at the front of the room. At Track Night in America events, he was the one welcoming the newcomers. He was a GRM ally.

We just received that Zuccarelli passed away due to a massive heart attack.

Update from Florida Region SCCA:

John M Zuccarelli III

3/25/1954 – 1/18/2021

John Zuccarelli passed away this morning from a massive heart attack. John joined SCCA in 1974, and raced in many venues, but always came back to his roots in SCCA. John was the past Regional Executive of Florida Region SCCA for the last 12 years.

He served in many positions in SCCA, from Chairman of the SCCA Foundation, he was involved in the founding of the SCCA Archives at Watkins Glen, and he ran for the Board of Directors of SCCA.

John has an unpresented number of Regional and Divisional Championships in SCCA. He is well known as a driver instructor and advocate for drivers in the entire Division. John was a fixture at Palm Beach International Raceway.

Burial plans are to bury him in New Jersey with a private funeral for immediate family. There will be a public memorial service for John when the pandemic is more under control.
