Please don’t let a Miata win.
We originally came across this idea on our forum, and after giving it some thought we think our members might really be onto something.
You see, the $2018 Challenge will have two autocrosses instead of its usual format (an autocross and a drag race). We won’t dwell on the details, but we will point out this interesting glitch in the matrix: It’s much easier to build a good autocross car than it is to build a car that can autocross and drag race, and we’re awarding a prize that’s worth nearly as much as the event’s budget cap: Miller Electric is providing a Multimatic® 215 Multiprocess Welder with TIG kit.
What’s this mean for you? It means you should probably start scouring Craigslist for a Miata, throw a cheap turbo kit on it, buy some sticky tires, and have a really good shot at winning the $2018 Challenge and taking home a sweet welder next weekend. We don’t want to be enablers, so we’ll stop our argument with just two more data points:
$2018 Challenge online registration closes Friday, October 5th, though we always accept walk-up registrations on the day of the event.
Clicking this link will take you to a Craigslist search for the term “Miata” costing less than $2018 near the $2018 Challenge.
Good luck! We’ll see you there, right?
