Haley Oosterhof, 26, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Elayne Man, 31, of Honolulu, Hawaii, are the 2017 recipients of the Wendi Allen Scholarship Fund.
The Allen family established the Wendi Allen Scholarship Fund in 2014 after its namesake, a multi-time Solo national champion who loved the SCCA Solo community, died of cancer at age 46. Each year, the fund awards scholarships to two female Solo drivers who are not only outstanding autocrossers, but deeply engaged club members.
Elayne Man, who hails from the SCCA’s Hawaii Region, attended the 2016 Tire Rack Solo Nationals and demonstrated her strong driving potential in Street Touring R Ladies. She also personally developed an advanced online, live timing and scoring system for her region.
Haley Oosterhof, of the Milwaukee Region, got started in 2015 with Regional Solo events. Immediately she became involved in the organizational aspects of the region and volunteered to take on the role of grid chief. Haley soon got her boyfriend involved, too, and both have become integral parts of the region in a short amount of time.
Both women will receive $1500 to support their travel to SCCA National Solo events and the Tire Rack Solo Nationals. Additionally, the SCCA will waive entry fees for the scholarship winners at all National Solo events this season.
