Your Projects: Why Buy New Tools When You Can Restore Them?

A self-proclaimed "wiring nerd," forum user Cousin_Eddie was looking for a new wire stripper after his old one stopped doing so well after 29 years of faithful service.

The original idea was to buy a new one just like it, but Cousin_Eddie discovered that the cutting jaws could actually be replaced. An order was placed soon after.

After a few minutes of work, the wire stripper had brand-new cutting jaws—and fresh new handles thanks to some red heat-shrink tubing.

Have you ever restored any tools, either to save money or for the sake of fixing stuff?

I couldn't be more surprised if I woke up with my head sewn to the carpet.
