Update by Per Schroeder to the LeGrand Mk 18 project car
Mar 29, 2011

Instructions are helpful when you’re learning a new skill, but often it’s better to just get your hands dirty. We’d watched people lay up carbon fiber, but we’d never done it ourselves. We picked a small project to get our feet—and fingers—wet.

We’re unsure how effective a front wing is on the LeGrand, but it’s pretty obvious that underbody aero is an area where we can improve our car’s downforce with minimal penalties in drag. We started with a pair of diffusers (sections of the underbody that expand to create low-pressure spots) mounted ahead of the front wheel. Theoretically, they should help our front grip at speed.
