LeGrand Mk 18 : Reanimating Our Monster Jul 16, 2010

We spent the weekend putting our LeGrand’s Kawasaki ZX10R engine back together after its oil starvation issue. We sourced a good used crank and a set of used rods along with new gaskets from Cometic. The oil pan was replaced with a billet piece from Schnitz Racing—it’s got a pickup that swings around so that it will stay where our oil is. We supplemented it with a baffle between the block and the pan. These changes, along with our new Moroso oil accumulator, should keep the motor happy.

The hoist ain't overkill. The tub is wide so the liftover would be very awkward. Exactly the type of lifting my back shows little tolerance for. Reaching away from your body with a load is not good. Besides, every time you uses your hoist justifies the money you spent on it.

Oh yea, it's been used on the Saab a few times and has now put the LeGrand engine(s) in 5 times. My insurance copayments for another single MRI would take care of the hoist cost……I'm about a year post ruptured disc, so I'm very aware of the issues :-)
