LeGrand Mk 18 : Sourcing Custom Brake Rotors Oct 15, 2009

The differential conversion on the rear of our LeGrand included a fresh single rear brake rotor, Carbotech pads and a new Wilwood caliper. That means that we needed to check over our two front rotors and change out the brake pads to match the rear.

At first glance, it appeared that everything was okay, but we soon realized that the rotors actually had a slight warp. This wasn’t just an uneven transfer layer—the rotors had been turned down at least four times and were quite thin. We searched around for replacements but came up empty-handed.

Enter Coleman Racing Products. They can reproduce unusual or custom rotors for very reasonable prices. We received a quote of around $65 apiece to recreate our rotors at their original thickness. While we were at it, we also had Coleman Racing cross drill the rotors to save some weight.

We topped off the new front rotors with a set of Carbotech AX6 pads to match the rear.

We’re on the home stretch of all of this work. We’re hoping—fingers crossed—that we’ll see the final uprights and axles by next week.
