Update by Per Schroeder to the LeGrand Mk 18 project car
Sep 13, 2010

Our LeGrand project just returned from a long trip to the Solo National Championships in Lincoln, Nebraska. We had modest hopes for our car’s first trip to the big show, and we more than met our expectations.

After the first day of competition, we were sitting in fourth place—a little more than a second behind the leader. We felt like we put some solid times down, but our drivers weren’t quite used to the grip and acceleration that a Mod-class car can produce on grippy concrete. Our second day was a little sketchier, with Per dropping back to the fifth position. While we had the potential to land the time needed to remain in fourth, we just couldn’t completely put together a strong, solid run on that Wednesday.

To put this all in perspective, we had the 11th fastest time of the event—behind a few A Modified and F125 drivers as well as our fellow B Mod drivers. On the PAX index, we came in 87th out of roughly 1160 competitors. That’s a pretty solid finish for a car that still needs a lot of development and adjustments.

Next up, we’ll be working on reinforcing some fragile control arms, tweaking our alignment settings, and doing more aerodynamic development. We plan on bringing the car back to Nebraska next year to see just how much we’ve improved our wee-beastie.

Unfortunately, a lot of your development time was spent replacing motors. Looks like you have that problem solved. Now you can devote the coming season to making the car go faster instead of making the car go.

I have to admit I was less than impressed with this project when it started but now I'm excited for every update, good work!
