Saab 99: Reading Rally Saab for Fall Festival Oct 22, 2008

Our Saab 99 has been sitting—very prettily, we might add—for several months we it awaited its next event. The time has come to dust off the Swede and get it ready for a dose of tarmac. European Motorsports Park is hosting an event next weekend called the Fall Festival of Speed, and it will feature a 64-mile tarmac rally.

To get our car ready, we’ve swapped out the knobby gravel tires for some R-compounds and reinstalled the anti-roll bars; now we’re working on some braking improvements. We’re tossing the old single-piston cast-iron calipers and replacing them with some aluminum Wilwood four-piston deals. The fronts are direct bolt-ons, while the rears just require an adapter—ours was made by SaabRally.com.

With these changes, we’re expecting the car to hoot on the new track!

This is such a great project! I'm hoping to equate some of this knowledge into a hill climb effort next year. =) BTW, great shot on the brake fluid drip. ;o)

Well, it was a hoot on track, but we had some issues with the timing chain and tensioner and had to DNF after 4 stages. Got more work to do!
