Jul 26, 2011 update to the Porsche 911 Carrera project car

Losing Our Heads

Our Porsche's engine looks bare without its intake.
Snapped head studs are somewhat rare on the Carrera, but we're told that it can happen. Who knows if this one was nicked or damaged during an earlier engine rebuild.
Although some of the others sported surface rust, too.
Our Subaru rallycrosser makes a good parts hauler.
Our ARP exhaust studs have arrived.

So far, other than the snapped head stud, things look good.

We made more progress on the Porsche this weekend. The heads have been removed and are waiting to be shipped off, the oil cooler is already out for cleaning, and soon we’ll drop off the engine sheet metal for powder coating.

So far, other than the snapped head stud, things look good. We have found evidence that someone has been inside this engine before, but it doesn’t look like they caused any damage.

Our ARP exhaust studs just arrived, and hopefully the cylinder head studs will follow shortly.

No wonder you didn't come to Deland.

Actually I was in DeLand, but not at the autocross. I did wave as I drove by.

The car (and its engine) are currently at a friend's place not too far from downtown, and I stopped by to clean some stuff. Between that and plans to visit family later on Sunday, I had to skip the autocross.

There is a popular build thread about the 911 with a Subaru engine, now you have a 911 engine in the back of your Subaru....

Yeah, I also thought that using the Subaru to carry the 911 engine was kind of funny. Tell you what, though, the Impreza will easily carry all kinds of stuff. At one point it held almost everything needed for the Porsche's engine rebuild, including the heads, cam towers, new ARP hardware, clutch, resurfaced flywheel, engine sheet metal and more.
