Hitting the Skids.

Update by Per Schroeder to the Subaru Impeza project car
Aug 18, 2005

Last night we installed the Primitive Racing skid plates on the front and rear of our Impreza. We ran into a few small issues that were easily solved.

The later Subarus have small captive nuts on the factory “mini skid plate”, whereas our earlier Impreza did not. We had to weld two nuts inside the skid plate to mount the rear of the Primitive plate. There is no way to hold the nut with a wrench, so a few welds did the trick.

The other problem is that our car was, well, pretty tweaked and the left front mounting point was quite a bit off. So much so that we had to drill a new hole in the skid plate about a half inch away from the first.

Next up, it looks like we can’t wait for the rollcage for the new windshield as it’s a little too cracked to pass tech inspection. We found a new windshield locally for $230 installed. It’s going in this afternoon.
