Update by Per Schroeder to the Mini Cooper project car
Aug 29, 2005

Per and Kim had a pretty good time this weekend in Dothan, Alabama and made it home in time to miss most of the I-10 traffic jams caused by Hurricane Katrina.

Saturday’s course found Per in second and Kim in fourth, out of seven drivers. Kim was about .4 behind Per and about 1.3 behind the winner and only non-MINI, Keith Roberts in his 318is.

Our choice of small rims and tires (and lack of 16” rims to go with the Kumhos that we have) hurt us a little more on Sunday as two of our competitors switched wheel and tire combinations, moving the Schroeder team to 3rd and 6th. For Sunday’s runs, Kim was just .3 behind Per (who had to stand on his first run) and about 1 second off the leader. Kim is learning quickly and doesn’t seem to be distracted by competition (or hyper-competitive autocrossers).

After Sunday’s runs, we weighed our 2005 MINI in autocross trim with just under 1/4 tank of gas. We were pleased to see just 2375 pounds pop up on the scale’s screen. It’s rare to see such a light car these days. Credit goes to MINI’s wonderful ala carte option system where you can pick exactly what you want, without the fluff.

Our little car packed full of tires, luggage and gear kept us from bringing our kids along. They spent the weekend at the Pet Paradise Resort in Palm Coast. They were extra happy to see us when picked them up early on Sunday evening from Pet Paradise Resort
