Relearning old tricks

Update by Per Schroeder to the Mini Cooper S project car
May 21, 2007

This weekend’s event at DeLand went very well. We had six cars in G Stock, five of which (possibly all six) were on R-compound tires. The grouping was fairly tight with those five cars within 1.2 seconds after the second and third runs. Per realized prior to his fourth and last run that the MINI Cooper S really doesn’t like going through offsets at the top of second gear, preferring the lower end of third gear so that engine braking during slight throttle won’t hurt momentum.

Our fourth run was a corker, dropping an additional 9/10ths of a second to secure the win and overall PAX index. The second place finisher in GS, Jerry Stein, was also second on index and our co-driver, Kim, wound up 5th or 6th in the handicapping system.

Next up, we’ll be heading to Huntsville, Alabama for the SCCA National Tour. That will be our first event on the larger 17-inch Enkeis and 225/40R17 Hoosier A6s.
