1993 Mazda Rx7 R1

A fun toy turned long-term project. I blew up the turbos after 3 seasons of regular auto slaloms, and a number of lapping days at Mosport’s Driver Development Track. Kids came along and derailed progress for all the right reasons. I’m just getting it put back together after 2 years of sitting. BSC motorsports is a local rotary specialist. Brent Clement handled the original engine rebuild with speed & precision, and put together a strong engine that has held up to multiple seasons of abuse. I can’t say enough about this guy. He’s a stand-up guy that does quality work, and has become a solid friend over the years. I’m in the process of installing a single turbo upgrade with supporting fuel & ignition mods, and a V-mount rad/intercooler setup. Here’s the current mod list: -Rebuilt engine by BSC Motorsports of Innisfil, ON. -Apexi Power FC & commander -Precision 5862 Journal Bearing Turbo -Stock Primary injectors -ID2000 secondary injectors -Aeromotive FPR -Aeromotive stealth 340lph fuel pump -AN lines & fittings -HKS Cast manifold -Synapse Engineering 50mm Wastegate -HKS HiPower cat-back -Rx7store V-mount kit (modified Greddy front mount intercooler, modified Koyo rad) -Pineapple Racing air pump delete idler pulley -Banzai Racing Oil Pan Brace & stud kit -IRP poly engine mounts -ACT full face clutch & HD pressure plate -ACT Streetlite flywheel & auto counterweight -Battery relocation Suspension: -Greddy Type S coilovers -Rotary Extreme solid trailing arms & toe links -New Mazda Pillowball bushings -17 Enkei RPF1’s, -crappy tires until the rest of the build is complete. After all of that… maybe a roll bar would be a wise investment. I figure even with my 2 boys taking the majority of my time, and it being too cold to work on the car until closer to March, I should be able to finish the majority of the work by mid-spring. Things should get interesting at that point! ~Matt

The engine shots are of the new single turbo mocked up with an HKS cast manifold and HKS Racing wastegate. I've since moved to a synchronic wastegate.
