Engine reassembly in progress

Apr 24, 2009 update on ae86andkp61's Toyota Corolla GT-S

The oil pump is back on, the sump and windage tray are back on, the block is painted to match. We also removed the flywheel, which I was surprised to find out wasn’t much lighter than stock…I guess the free-revving was all due to internals, lightweight crank pulley, and higher compression. We replace the rear main seal as insurance. A 4A-G short block is pretty easy to flip over, so we just popped it off th stand to do this. :p

There was one stuck/broken off bolt on the intake side of the block which was a bit of a pain, but we got it without too much hassle, and only a little damage to the fresh gray paint.

A new water pump was assembled with new gaskets and O-rings, and placed on the block with associated plumbing and crank timing pulley also installed with a new key. Oh yeah, we got the head installed also with a new Toyota head gasket (more durable than a metal one, and we have enough compression from the pistons) but trimmed slightly to allow full oil flow to the head.

No cams installed yet, but I dropped some covers over the top to help keep dust out and just to get an idea of what it will look like once all buttoned up.
