Fuel Mileage

Gorgeous morning here in Charlotte, low humidity, low 60's. So early this morning I took the car out for an 80 mile jaunt round the 'loop' here in Charlotte. Virtually no traffic and speeds varied between 60-70mph on the cruise ...

mark_850t:
Looks awesome, the V8 is ok, the 2.3 turbo engine is AWESOME to modify, but it's hard to beat the v8 torque and simplicity as well as the abundance and low price of the 5.0 engine... I like this car's presentation and attention to detail.

MichaelYount:
Thanks guys - it's a fun toy, and a pretty good sleeper. FWIW - consistently gets 17-19 mpg around town and 25-26.5 on the highway - best tank of 27.5 on the Interstate. Just about the same as the n.a. 4 banger.

Powar:
Very cool.

I wish there were lots of production cars like yours. Trying to push my E-30 in that direction. Simple, beautiful, and fun. Cars have too much stuff now. A/C, power windows, is plenty enough luxury for me. Wonderful job.
Mar 1, 2010 5:12 a.m.
MichaelYount:
What power windows? :)
Apr 5, 2010 7:10 a.m.
Raze:
Michael, saw your car at the GT Autoshow, I couldn't believe the attention to detail on this thing, truely a masterpiece original!
Apr 5, 2010 10:02 a.m.
MichaelYount:
Raze -- thanks for kudos....I enjoy refining it. When I retire, I'm just going to build cars. And I announced to my wife that I wasn't sure I'd ever need another one --- this has enough left to do to keep me occupied for a while. Knee-deep into GM Perf. Products crate LS3 possibities right now. Since Ford sold Volvo to Chinese ownership - no need to keep it 'in the family' any longer!
Apr 5, 2010 10:03 a.m.
MichaelYount:
....oh - and I got 25.2 mpg on the round trip from Charlotte!

Thanks to all the folks who came by at GaTech's (2010 GRM Champs!) car show Apr. 2nd. Great visiting with you and seeing your reaction to the car in person!
Apr 5, 2011 4:46 p.m.
V8Reactor242:
Michael, I'm just starting a Camaro V8 swap for my '80 242 with a buddy of mine. Coincidentally enough, my Vo is also sand/almond colored and I love the look that you've put together. I'd like to hit you up for pointers in the next few months if thats alright..
Apr 5, 2011 6:49 p.m.
MichaelYount:
No problem. I'll likely go LS3 when it's time for more umph.... Probably best to just email me when the time comes - michael.yount@piedmontng.com You probably know, but if it's old school ignition - you eat up valuable space with the distributor at the back. Distributorless or the Ford small block solves that problem.
Aug 15, 2011 7:49 p.m.
MichaelYount:
Tried to add a couple of new pictures; re-did front air dam. Added a 93 Volvo 850 air dam and homemade splitter.

mrwillie:
I think I saw your car( minus the rear wing ) in the Garner/Raleigh-area? The car looks great at a distance. I can only imagine how good it looks up close. Good job!!!
May 9, 2013 9:49 a.m.
Billy_Bottle_Caps:
That is cool
Aug 10, 2013 7:07 p.m.
MichaelYount:
mrwillie - wasn't mine. I've never had it up in Raleigh and it hasn't been without the wing since the late 80's.
Nov 7, 2013 2:03 p.m.
92dxman:
Super awesome is all have to say regarding this vehicle.
Sep 18, 2016 7:14 a.m.
MichaelYount:
Got the LS3 in replacing the Ford 5.0L. Running great! Still clearing up some nits/nats -- accurate tach reading and see what codes are causing an intermittent check engine light. But I couldn't be happier. So much smoother and more refined than the 5.0L was. And carrying about 6.8 lbs/hp - man is it sporty!
Feb 12, 2017 7:55 a.m.
MichaelYount:
Almost 1000 miles on the new combo - all bugs worked out. New Classic Auto Air working beautifully, all gauges/idiot lights working as they should -- in town mpg in the 17.5-20.5 range (last fill up was 179 miles on 8.7 gallons!). Not too shabby. Looking forward to a road trip....
Mar 4, 2017 8:02 p.m.
DocV:
Looks awesome. Go Jackets!
Apr 11, 2017 8:53 a.m.
MichaelYount:
Was going to bring it down to the GaTech auto show on April 1st, but my dear old mom took a turn for the worse a few days before. She passed on April 6th -- so next year I'll dedicate my trip to the show to her!
Aug 8, 2017 noon
TerryB610:
Love what you did. I used to own a 760 with a Kenne-Bell supercharged 5.0. Would love to locate a 242 V8. I look forward to chat with you.
