1973 AMC Hornet 2-door Coupe

  • 232ci I6, 3-Speed Auto
  • 63K Original Miles
  • Grasshopper Green Metallic
  • Green Vinyl Interior

I traded a carburetor and steering wheel for it! Runs and drives excellent, everything works, and best of all my 401 AMC V8/5-Speed manual fit in it. It's destined to be a drag car. These pictures are as-purchased, I even haven't even emptied the change bucket yet!

And away she goes...

The poor Hornet is a smooshed little pile of scrap now. :( The cancer was way too bad to try fixing (front subframe, rear subframe, rockers, and rear 1/4's plus rad support, front and rear valances, and fenders). Every single ...

Dig the inside!

I can't find anything online that AMC ever made a designer Concord (like the Pierre Cardin Javelin, Oleg Cassini Matador, and Gucci Hornet Sportabout) but this interior is class. It's "perforated leather-like vinyl" in tan with a brown and orange ...

Parts car!

I picked up this 1978 Concord wagon over the weekend for the Hornet. It's a 304 V8, 3-Speed Auto car. It has A/C, PS, PB (with front disc), and working factory Cruise! This car is loaded with good parts and ...

Started bodywork

I also started the bodywork. I was going to leave it alone until the 401 was in, but I'm worried about letting any rust get worse. The car already needs a driver's front floor pan, pair of lower rockers, and ...

Even the headliner is good!

They don't make them like they used to. Here's a 37-year-old AMC compact, bottom of the line, and the headliner looks better than any car I've ever owned. That's quality.

Never been ridden in...

I'm reasonably sure the back seat has never been used. The carpet is absolutely mint, the seat looks like new, and the rear ashtray looks untouched. Also, I found 7 cents, a socket, and a Torx bit set when cleaning ...

Interior turned out great!

Here's the interior after some elbow grease and a Mexican blanket (that I really did buy in Mexico)! I need to get a pair of window crank knobs, clean out the HVAC ducts, and get the clock working. Everything else ...

Cleaning up!

I actually got some time this weekend to work on the Hornet. I cleaned out the interior and trunk, washed the windows in and out, and generally got the clutter and dirt out of it. This is a picture of ...

I had a '73 white hatchback that had a 304ci in it. I think it was the AMX edition and had the denim interior. I bought it off my Dad for a dollar, which he bought off my Uncle originally for a dollar. Lastest 2-3 years as my first car, loads of fun, manual brakes and steering. Nice find.
